Due to longer daylight hours and higher sun altitudes in spring and summer, solar panels get more sunlight and release more energy. On average, solar panel systems produce 40-50% more electricity in July-August than in November-December. You absolutely can't lose that power, so why not run an AC unit on it? Check panel performance.
Making sure your panels are working doesn't mean climbing onto the roof every few months. While manufacturers recommend an annual visual inspection of your solar array, it's much easier to monitor its operation with special equipment: charge controllers and inverters. Sometimes they can be paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth to help you monitor your solar PV system 24/7. If your panel's performance suddenly drops, you'll be able to spot it quickly and take appropriate action. The easiest cause of performance loss is dirt, which brings us to our next solar tip.

Clean the panel every once in a while.
If your panels are installed on the ground, they must be cleaned 2-3 times a year. Some time ago, Google engineers did an experiment at a solar farm in California: They left some panels to collect dust for 15 months, then came and cleaned them. Production doubled instantly. If your panels are placed on a pitched roof, you can let the rainwater take care of them, but not forever: The dirt on top of the panels will end up as mud. The exact frequency with which you should clean your half cut solar panel depends on the area you live in. To clean it, you can call a special service or do it yourself. It's a lot like washing windows, except you don't use soap: it leaves a residue that reflects sunlight and collects dust and debris.
